Why choose a boat club membership over boat ownership?

Pacific Boating is a club membership programme which offers the joy of boating without the hassle or on going costs that boat ownership or boat share often involve. This concept though is not for everyone and if you want to buy there are some questions that you need to ask yourself first?

  1. Why do I want a boat?
  2. What is my budget?
  3. Should I buy a new or a used boat?
  4. Should I consider boat share or join a boating club instead of ownership?
  5. Can I afford the annual fees, maintenance, insurance, berthing or storage etc
  6. Where will I store or berth it?
  7. Will I use the boat enough for it to be a cost effective purchase?
  8. Will it fit my lifestyle?

Check out our story below to learn more about questions to ask before buying a boat in NSW

Before you lash out and buy your own boat, it makes sense to check out the ongoing costs of boat ownership that you need to factor in over and above the purchase price.

As a ballpark figure, expect to pay around a minimum of $20,000/year to own a boat in Australia, and that’s excluding petrol usage. Check our guide to learn more about costs of boat ownership

Doing your research before heading out to the Boat Show could minimise hasty impulse purchases and give you an idea of which vessels, clubs or syndicates might suit you best.
